Two-Headed Boy

Here’s one for framing – Toronto Maple Leafs tough guy Tie Domi gives Conan O’Brien a proper Torontonian welcome. O’Brien is in town shooting segments for his week of Late Night shows which will be broadcast from Hogtown later this month. And speaking of the Leafs… Nice game last night. Down 4-0 halfway through the second last night and coming back to win 5-4 in overtime? Ottawa will say they all came down with the flu… well, they certainly were gagging. Zing!

Some geek movie casting news – Sam Rockwell will play Zaphod Beeblebrox in the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy movie – I like this casting decision. Rockwell was great in Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, and I think he’ll do well as the two-headed President of the Galaxy. One pan-galactic gargle blaster, please. Also, Sigourney Weaver has reportedly been cast as the first Silk Spectre and Daniel Craig as Rorschach in Watchmen. Add this to the rumours of John Cusack as Nite Owl. More and more it looks like Watchmen is actually happening. Cue ambievalence… now.

NOW talks to John Stirratt about The Autumn Defense as well as his full-time job in Wilco. The Autumn Defense play the Horseshoe next Tuesday. It’s a free show, so I may stop by and check it out – their set starts at 10:15.

Elf Power’s new album, Walking With The Beggar Boys hits the streets April 6. According to the band, it’s “Musically it’s all over the place, ranging from sleazy, T Rex-ish rockers to psychedelic electronica to Southern rock romps (The title track features a duet with folk rock legend Vic Chesnutt !)”. Big-ass tour to follow.

M Doughty, former frontman for Soul Coughing, bring his solo show to Lee’s Palace March 7. They’ve even made posters for you to print out and paste all over your bedroom walls!

Wooo, Sam Rockwell would make a GREAT Zaphod… I’m trying to figure who I would pick for Trillian or Arthur… I’ve got a vague idea in my head, but I can’t conceptualize it specific people.

  2. Ryan Waddell says:

Note – According to imdb.com, the following casting has been done:

    Mos Def

    Zooey Deschanel

    Martin Freeman …. Arthur Dent

    Bill Nighy

Zooey Deschanel would make a damn fine Trillian…

  3. david says:

I’m excited about the new Elf Power. I’ve heard some of the demos, and it’s a departure from "Creatures." I’d love these guys to hit it big, they’re so damn nice.

  4. janelle says:

sam rockwell replaced luke wilson as my rotating actor crush when i saw that movie (pre-confessions) about the apartment break-in/heist – the one with george clooney in a wheelchair – i can’t remeber the name. i’m a bad fan.

  5. janelle says:

oh yeah, and i’m all about conan broadcasting from toronto (is this going to become permanent?) – there’s not enough cross pollination going on in the north american entertainment industry. degrassi just ain’t enough…

  6. Frank says:

Nah, Conan’s only coming up here for a week. And I don’t have tickets. I’m a little disappointed in the guest selection – it’s all the horribly obvious canadian celebs – but that’s a minor complaint. The inclusion of Nickelback is a major complaint, though. Alas.

You’re thinking of "Welcome To Collingwood". Cute film.

    M. Doughty… yessssssssss. Finally. I’ve been hearing bootlegs of his live stuff in NY for some time and I can’t wait. I miss Soul Coughing.

I’m at Conan on Wed. If I get in. It’s going to be shakeycoolweird.

I still don’t trust a Watchman film. If Terry Gilliam says it can’t be done (and if there’s ever a guy who knows about films that can’t be done, it’s Terry G)…

I’m perfectly happy having Watchmen in paper-form anyway… who needs a hackneyed film version when the comic is such brilliant entertainment?

Sam Rockwell is cool-ass. Rent Jerry and Tom (this is the first major role I saw him in, starring alongside Joe Mantangia and Maury Chayken, made me sit up and take notice… a wonderful dark comedy). He also had a good role in Galaxy Quest back in the day.
