Great Northern's new album is pretty good. Much better than their first.

I'm sure the Faint put on a great live show, but I was listening to them in all seriousness a few years ago, when I was a baby, and they really don't stand the test of time. Kinda boring and melodramatic with very few great hooks on record, I feel like. In any event, this tour had two dates in Chicago last week, and one of them was headlined by the Faint, so you would have gotten your wish. Fun stuff.

I too was a Faint virgin. Energetic, yes, and not bad, but not quite my cup of tea (they struck me as Indie NIN-lite), but I was obviously in the minority. I'll admit a couple of songs toward the end of their set did get my attention.

I suspect whatever feeling of unease you were experiencing could be directly attributed to that grating and ridiculously loud DJ set by FIGO between bands. I'm with you that having Ladytron play first would have been preferable, if only so I could have left immediately afterwards and avoided that (and I'm not sure if it's just my age -- the kids didn't seem to be digging it either). Ladytron were brilliant as always, but for reasons you mentioned, the Harbourfront show was definitely superior.
