Bummer, I love "Chillout Tent" - wish they had busted that one out at the Phoenix.

I didn't know what to expect from the Drive-Bys, having never heard them before. Didn't like them at first, but they won me over.

Great review Frank. And, as always, awesome photography. I loved that show. Two of my favorite bands. This is a great sentence: "Whereas The Hold Steady embody the spirit of giddy youth and the mistakes and mishaps that come with it, the Drive-By Truckers are about life and experience and being worn down by it all, yet still standing up." Perfect summary.

Hugh - no booze and assigned seating????? I couldn't handle it. You have to dance and scream and head-bang during these acts! But Pat and Shonna singing during "Chillout Tent" is friggin awesome!!! Also, the Truckers have a lot of gorgeous, softer tunes which I imagine that they broke out for their opening set.

Last night in Pittsburgh we got THS closing and it was a very different vibe than from your description. Granted the venue, (No Booze, Strictly enforced assigned seating...especially for these bands?) might have added to the overall feel, but with the Truckers opening, they seemed a little reserved as opposed to THS, who were very energetic (as well as...rushed?). For the four song encore, practically both bands were on stage simultaneously.

Ride On (with DBT)
Chillout Tent (Patterson and Shonna on the alternating vocal parts)
Look Out Cleveland (with DBT)
Killer Parties (with DBT)

Really fun show.
