First, thanks for the thorough reviews and great pictures. After going through your coverage, I have to say it's almost scary how closely aligned I was with your choices and your impressions of them (i.e., sticking to the mainstage Saturday, ping-ponging back and forth to the same performances Sunday, with the exception of The Clientele, who I missed). In particular, your sentiments regarding the Pumpkins are eerily similar to my own, right down to such details as the fact that I loved them at the time Siamese Dream came out (saw them at the Danforth Palladium with Swervedriver, a great double-bill), lost interest by the time Mellon Collie eventually was released, even the fact that I don't have my copy of Siamese Dream anymore! I, too, left after about half their set, as they couldn't compete with the prospect of an available ferry.

Also, I felt pretty much the same way about all the performances, but had to comment on a couple of things. I believe the appeal of the Monkeys can be summed up in one word: Anglophilia. If British for its own sake doesn't do it for you, neither will the Monkeys. But I do think their pop smarts are formidable. And I also thought the Editors were incredible, better than when I saw them last year at the Opera House. Everything came together for them on Sunday, the sound, the lights, the crowd, and it brought out a terrific performance. And the comparisons to Interpol are inevitable, and justified, but in Paul Banks' defence, there are two very different aesthetics at play here, and his appeal is arguably as strong, just different (and I don't think guys can appreciate it). If one had to characterize the two bands in terms of their influences/styles, then Interpol would be Joy Division blended with the Chameleons to Editors' mix of Joy Division and Coldplay. And I mean all of that in the most complimentary way to both, just as a way of distinguishing between them. In any case, Interpol played to a dedicated following, while at the Editors show, I could actually hear new fans being created around me as they played!

explosions in the sky were a major disappointment to me..the sound was terrible..there was no snare drum whats so ever and at times they were playing either too fast for the bass track or too slow.
I thought blonde redhead was the best of the day.

Very cool to hear that - I'm not a V Fest boycotter - but after last year's Massive Attack loss and Flaming Lips cock-up, I wasn't willing to risk my sheckles on this year's event... so I'm glad to hear I need to start saving pennies for next year, which I will definitely check out.

Thanks for the great coverage... it was exactly what I needed to hear...
