Bringing About The Apocalypse Is Not Considered Cool

Spoon.

Gimme Fiction.

May 10.

About.

Bloody.

Time.

Pitchfork has more details.

The Ambulance Ltd show that had been scheduled for March 2 at the Mod Club (yes, I just used the past tense) is no longer. Earlier yesterday, Ticketmaster had the show listed with the date TBA and Autolux, who had been tipped as support, appeared to be confirmed in Virigina on that day continuing to support The Secret Machines. Emerge has confirmed that the rescheduled date is April 16, still at the Mod Club, and that all tickets for the March 2 show will be honoured on the new date. I have no idea who will support, but I am going to stop saying “Autolux” because I’m starting to sound stupid. But on the plus side, it’s a Saturday show now.

Of course, what this also means is that I may well have the energy to hit some CMW shows on the Thursday night after all. We shall see.

The Ratio is a new online music zine based out of Toronto that just started up. Their first issue (looks like they’ll be publishing biweekly) looks promising with some interesting feature topics (Gowan?) and the writing is pretty good. Worth a look.

Another new site is Popstars Feet, brought to my attention by Largehearted Boy. The idea of a blog based on photos of indie pop musicians’ feet is a novel one, but you just know what someone, somewhere, is getting off on this.

24: I don’t know, are we supposed to cheer that Soul Patch (nee Tony) is back in the game? What I want to know is, what has he been doing for the past two years that he can be at a garage in Burbank, armed, within 10 minutes of getting a phone call from Jack. Driving a cab? And next time I need a security firm that can efficiently get massacred in their own offices, I’ll be sure to call those guys. Otherwise, not too much to say about the other storylines. Behruz and Mom on the run, CTU not quite getting the job done. Etc etc. I like how Sarah told Maryanne in precise detail where Jack and Audrey were going – she’s just helpful like that. And this Jack/Audrey/Paul triangle thing would be a lot more interesting if the husband didn’t look like Mr Bean.

Wonderfalls is out on DVD today! Go buy/rent it. It’s good.

Yes, Canadians buy our milk in bags. Metafilter is agog.

This is turning out to be kind of a slow week.

I was hoping that when Jack called the only person he could trust it would be Zombie Lou Diamond Phillips from season 1.

  2. Torr says:

yeah, those milkbags were the weirdest thing I discovered while living in Canada. The question no one seems to be able to answer is why canada uses them.

  3. sam says:

24 – as soon as Jack mentioned he was calling the only person he trusted, i wanted it to be either, Tony, Palmer, or Chase (iffy choice, not Jack’s favorite but mine).

i suddenly got very excited at the prospect of seeing an old face pop up. i dunno, i seem to have had a different experience than yours with this episode. this is turning into a mighty fine stretch, imo.

  4. bozairzere says:

so,erm popstars feet…(sorry frank, i had to..) does this give presedence to the term shoegaze? sorry. the mr bean thing was funny.

  5. Jeremy says:

Ontario is not Canada! Many provinces do not sell milk in bags.

  6. sam says:

    quebec does also.

  7. Sean says:

Tony is a great choice. (I think I even yelped "TONY!" in a slightly louder than a speaking voice at the TV). I’ll suspend questioning how he could show up so quickly (LA ain’t small by any stretch) but injecting some familiarity back into the mix is fine by me.

  8. Frank says:

My Soulpatch theory, which I’ve already shared with some of you, is that since getting out of prison for his misdeeds in season 3, Tony has been working as a cabbie in Burbank, which is why he was able to get to Jack’s location so quickly (he was already mobile) and why he was armed. Just watch – next week, they’ll exit the garage and his cab will be sitting outside with a fare waiting in it. And that’s the big plot for that episode – get that passenger to his destination on time!

I was hoping it would be Zombie Nina coming to the rescue.

  9. Ieinz says:

The bag must be the reason for the Canadian music monopoly recently.

  10. hermance says:

I liked how in the previews for next week, he denies he’ll be able to help Jack because, after all, (in deep melancholy), "I’m considered a traitor to this country."

    Still, I loved the episode.

I know that husband is bad. He’s got an accent. It’s just a matter of time until we find out how he knows dude from the party.

And was anyone else slightly befuddled that–after all the excuses as to why both Jack and Audrey had to go on-site to view the tape–Jack was then able to dismiss one angle entirely and that Audrey was able to tell the guy to fast forward (digitally, it seems) to the exact moment she showed up? Yeah, that seems worth the risk.

    Still, I love it.

  11. Pete says:

Great ep, ya the timing on Tony’s appearance was a little non believable, but I’ll take it. He looks very bitter now. I see him getting killed though.

  12. Brandon says:

When I was in middle school in San Antonio, TX, quite suddenly and almost overnight cartons disappeared from the school cafeterias to be replaced by bags of milk. The bags stuck around until I graduated from high school and while I haven’t been back to a South Texas public school in a long time, as far as I know they’re still bagging it.

  13. James says:

Since when has Jack trusted Tony? Did he forget season two AND season one?

  14. Five One Seven says:

    I was hoping for Chloe…

Phone rings. Close up on pouty faced Chloe

    JACK: Chloe it’s Jack.

CHLOE: Look Jack, I’ve been fired okay? I can’t do anything. Don’t you think you’ve gotten me into enough trouble?

JACK: Chloe, I haven’t got time for this the beep, beep, beep noise is going to happen any second now.

CHLOE: Fine Jack, I’ll hack into the computer system using the interface on my phone and shoot laser beams into the eyes of your attackers, but this is the last time that I–

JACK: Just do it Chloe. (Hangs up)

    or better yet…

Phone rings. Close up on a sleepy looking Kim, half-dressed in bed.

    JACK: Kim?

    KIM: Dad! Are you okay?

JACK: Kim, (eyes get teary) I’m being attacked in the garage of a private security company just behind your house. I don’t know if we’ll make it.

KIM: I’m coming to get you. I just have to say goodbye to my new NSA boyfriend — who will surely lose a limb before the end of the season just like all my other boyfriends — (Kim grabs a gun from her nightstand).

Tony did catch me off guard.
