Theme For A Very Delicious Grand Piano

What a thoroughly unremarkable weekend.

Went to the North American premier of Ken Loach’s Sweet Sixteen at the Toronto International Film Festival this afternoon. At the very chi-chi Elgin Theatre… in a nutshell, it’s about a 15-year old Scottish boy who gradually falls into a life of crime whilst trying to make a better life for himself and his mom, who is soon to be released from prison. Really quite enjoyed it – the Scottish accents were so thick as to require English subtitles! The acting was pretty excellent, considering the youth of most of the lead actors. The actor protraying the protagonist, Martin Compston, was in the audience for the screening – the standing ovation he got at the end was earned, not just polite.

Picked up the new Aimee Mann album today. Bit the bullet and bought it at Sam’s just to get the bonus EP which really only has two extra songs on it. Damn the completist in me. On the first couple listens it’s pretty standard Aimee Mann fare – I’ll have to give it more intensive listenings to fully appreciate I’m sure.

Good to hang out with Large again for a while, haven’t seen him since my birthday four months ago.

I keep getting my ass kicked at Warcraft III…
